The gym scene in Staten Island has changed dramatically since MRG Fitness opened it’s doors 8 years ago. Our community boasts dozens of training facilities, perfect for gym-goers seeking “the toughest workout” imaginable.
Gyms recognized the demand for intensity, delivering it in spades. Trainees, (and even less experienced coaches) began to value raw intensity over the quality of a routine. Progressive development, safety and intention were abandoned for bragging rights.
At best, modern gym culture alienated newcomers with rigid habits and unadulterated intensity.
At it’s worst, unsustainable exercise and dietary habits can lead to physical and mental trauma. Plateaus in development, eating disorders, and injuries became badges of honor instead of red flags.
